This Couple Knows It Would Be Their Last Anniversary: Puts a Romantic End to Their Story With Milestone Celebration

An elderly couple reenacted their wedding day on their 75th anniversary despite knowing very well it may be their last. True love exists and can last a lifetime.

A proud granddaughter named Chelsea Dyck shared how her grandparents decided to plan something sweet for their 75th wedding anniversary, acknowledging it may be their last to celebrate together. Their love is so strong and so timeless, that even the most romantic Hollywood stories would be jealous.

Their Lasting Love Story

When her grandmother was 14 and her grandfather Jerry was 15, they met at a church dedication, which seemed fit because her grandfather was a pastor his entire life.

At that time, her grandma recalls they had dinner at the church before playing a game of tag outside. Her grandpa then was wearing – a sportscoat, dress pants, and a silk handkerchief in the pocket of his coat.

While the two were playing tag, she grabbed the handkerchief, he tried to get it back, and they tussled back and forth. To this day, the wife still keep that handkerchief.

“I’ve kept it to this day, 80 years later!” she proudly said.

Getting Married as Teenagers

It took some years before things started to get serious between the couple. When the woman turned 18, they began thinking about the future of buying a home together and what life might look like. Suddenly, Jerry proposed to her.
On their wedding day, Jerry showed up in a dirty shirt and cap from logging all morning. She was angry at him for that, but after he gave her wild roses, she knew she was all in.

According to Chelsea, even her grandfather remembered their wedding day clearly because it was the beginning of their wonderful life together. It wasn’t always easy, but he thanked God for always being “so good to them.”

Embracing the Mundane Days

This lovely couple’s mundane daily lives made up the most epic love story that has stood the test of time and lasted 75 years. They share 5 daughters, 18 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren between them.

For their 75th anniversary, the couple decided to reenact their wedding day. Chelsea shared pictures of her grandmother in her beautiful veil from years ago while carrying a bouquet of flowers. She walked toward her husband of 75 years, who was wearing a black suit while in hospice.

Setting an Example to Others

After seeing the special moment between her grandparents, Chelsea wanted the same for herself when the time came. In a post, she wrote:

“I want nothing short of the way he looks at her and smiles!”

Jerry had been getting weak, but he still made sure to dress up on this special occasion. It was a special moment between him and his wife as well as their entire family. They didn’t think Jerry would make it to this day.
“The love and joy in the room was palpable. You see, a few months before we didn’t think my Grandpa would make it to celebrate this day. He was put on hospice only a short time before their big celebration.”, Chelsea shared.

Spending the Rest of their Days Together

Jerry claims that they have such a lasting marriage due to the fact that his wife is both loving and forgiving. 75th anniversary meant a great deal to them, especially since they knew that it might be their last.

Shortly after that, Jerry fell and broke his hip. He and his wife needed to live apart, but this wasn’t how she and the rest of their family wanted him to spend the rest of his life.

So the couple’s daughters chartered a flight for both of them to live at one of their daughter’s homes, where they not only got the care they needed but also got to spend the rest of their days together. True love truly is eternal!
