Kamala Harris, former Vice President of the United States, has announced she is publishing a memoir about her unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign. The book, titled 107 Days, refers to the length of her campaign against Donald Trump and is set to be released by Simon & Schuster.
Why It Matters
Harris became the Democratic nominee in August 2024 after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race amid growing concerns within the party over his age and cognitive health.
Ultimately, Harris lost the general election, securing 226 Electoral College votes to Trump’s 312. On Wednesday, she announced she will not run for governor of California in 2026, fueling speculation about a potential second presidential bid in 2028.
What To Know
Harris revealed the book on Thursday via a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, writing: “Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days. With candor and reflection, I’ve written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey.”
The announcement sparked a mixed response online. While some expressed interest in her perspective, conservative commentators were sharply critical.
During a segment on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins, senior reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere remarked: “There’s going to be a book tour, and one of the things people close to her are grappling with is how she plans to talk about Joe Biden.”
White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson posted on X in response: “Writing a memoir about being a loser is a choice.”
In a video clip circulating online, Harris is seen laughing while discussing a personal anecdote from the book:
“There’s a lot of personal stuff in the book. I mean, poor Dougie,” she says, referring to her husband, Doug Emhoff, before bursting into laughter. “Dougie kind of dropped the ball at my big birthday.”
